Fashion houses left and right are changing their designers right now. In the last week, we’ve had news that Dario Vitale has left Miu Miu for Versace, and Demna has left Balenciaga for Gucci. WWD reported that Miguel Castro Freitas is talking to Mugler as a replacement for Casey Cadwallader. And Loewe (pronounced low-ay-vay), the LVMH-owned Spanish leather goods company, announced that its star designer, Jonathan Anderson, who also designs his namesake brand J.W. Anderson, has resigned.
Duh. As if everyone in fashion didn’t already know. There were no Loewe shows this season, and Puck’s Line Sheet writer Lauren Sherman reported in January that Proenza Schouler founders and designers Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have been tapped to replace Anderson at Loewe.
In fact, my LVMH sources tell me that Anderson has been working at Dior “for months” and telling people left and right—very indiscreetly—that he’s already well installed there. Not cool for Dior’s current designer Maria Grazia Chiuri. It’s as if Dior and Anderson are having an affair, and Chiuri is the abandoned wife.
