“Who’s John Galliano?”
That’s what the British airline desk agent said when I handed her a copy of my book, Gods and Kings: The Rise and Fall of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano as I checked in for at the Southampton, England airport for my flight to Paris.
No, I don’t usually bribe airline personnel with signed books for better treatment—though that is a good idea. I was flying home from the Fashion Week Transatlantic Crossing on the Queen Mary 2—more about that below—and my suitcase was overweight. Pulling out, and handing over, two books made the difference.
The point of this tale is that while she and her colleague were excited to read about McQueen, who died 15 years ago, she had never heard of John Galliano.
